A fortunate find: A custom invitation from a year ago. Hearts and talents, freely and generously given, together bring a dream to life. I am completely undone by the sweetness of all it connotes.Art... sacred space...Anglican tradition...all united and involved...of one mind. The inscripted text inside combines all...singing sublimely, encapsulating the incarnate:
While all things were in quiet silence,
And that night was in the midst of her swift course,
Thine almighty Word leaped down from heaven
Out of thy royal throne. Alleluia.

Welcome back! St. John's Service of Lessons and Carols has been a wonderful blessing to the singers and congregation alike. We thought ever so fondly of you last evening as the choir, plus the usual assortment of friends, continued the very Anglican tradition you first helped bring to us all those years ago. And, looking at the timestamp on this post, I would imagine you were reciprocating...

I recognized the cover of the invitation and along with the Rorem, it has me a bit "undone" too... as I e-mailed, just before the service, 2 singers were discussing the chances of your appearing in the doorway...I think you did "appear", we all felt you with us...as you will always be, especially for the "good work" of L&C... : )

Lessons and Carols was wonderful...it still has your special "touch" to it. How dearly you were missed...and how much we all hoped you would appear in that doorway. But as catsinger said...you did "appear" and both performers and audience felt your loving presence! Love,
Felipe, I know we both share the opinion that this service is a rare gem and a gift to the world. If you ever get a chance to go to Sewanee for their service...ah...you'd just want to be assumed into heaven on the spot.
Catsinger, I thoroughly enjoyed that 12/10 blog! And -- the Rorem is just one more example of the marrying of text and music that just slays me. Thanks be to God.
