...and I don't think that alternating between snow and rain, freezing and not, covered and bare earth is what I had in mind for an Indiana winter. Yet...what an ideal icon for Lent...
I'm a baby boomer, married to a Carioca, with three children, Sarah, Summer, Jordan - each of whom is greater than the sum of their parents. Nana Dragonfly to Charlotte!!!! Mom to Lucy, the wonder border collie, Bixby, the orange tabby terror, and Kippy Kadoo, the crazy Bengal. Connoisseur of all things dark-chocolate and always ready for a new incarnation of it, preferably with a 'higher percentage'. Can you spell addict?
(Currently) The Most Beautiful Thing in the Universe
The set of Nocturnes, which includes the Shining Night below, has two other pieces. One sets a Rilke poem; the other, a Pablo Neruda. Lauridsen seems to have a deep-spirit crave for excessively wonderful texts.
'Sure on This Shining Night' by Morton Lauridsen. Samuel Barber must have left just enough grace-filled space in the universe after writing his version for Mort to come up with his. You'll weep for wonder.
What I'm Listening to...
'Verse', Patricia Barber. The SMARTEST & most exciting jazz singer ever. Her original, rich-fare lyrics will blow your mind.
Mass in Blue, British Composer, Will Todd. Includes scrumptuous anthems. Ave Verum Corpus is a wonder. Ditto for Christus est Stella.
